Coach Clayton is entering his 19th year coaching football and 12th season with the Mustangs!! Coach Clayton helped coach the Mustangs defensive line in five 5A State Championship Games winning 4!!! Coach Clayton coaching stops include Southeast of Saline (3A), Bethany College (NAIA), and the Salina Bombers/Salina Liberty (professional indoor football teams).

Coach Clayton and former Mustang (‘89) played under former Mustang coach Marvin Diener. Coach Clayton was selected to play in the Kansas State All-Star game (Kansas Shrine Bowl) and played for the West squad!! Coach Clayton continued his playing career with a scholarship offer from Kansas State University and played under College Football Hall of Fame Coach Bill Snyder. Clayton was in Snyder's first recruit class! After a successful career with KSU and Weiser Lock Copper Bowl victory over Wyoming, Coach Clayton pursued a career in law enforcement with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office for 6 years before finding his true profession of being a firefighter/EMT with the Salina Fire Department! Coach Clayton enjoys watching sports and spending time with family and friends. Coach Clayton is married to his high school sweetheart Leslie. They have 3 children: Amanda, Megan and Nickolas.
